This collection includes a mimeographed of a typed transcript, a carbon copy of a typed page and a photocopied autographed page from Daniel Hughes and Claud McDaniel in Indiana, Texas and elsewhere ranging from 1861 to 1960 regarding Civil War, daily life in the army, furlough and a history of the 25th Regiment Indiana Volunteers.

Biographical Note

Daniel Hughes was the son of Dr. J. H. and Elizabeth Hughes of Huntingburg, Indiana, born around 1848. He had a sister, Elizabeth. He was a private in Company E, 25th Regiment Indiana Volunteers, having enlisted on August 19, 1861 at Evansville, Indiana. He was promoted to Corporal May 13, 1862, reduced on November 11, 1862 and reinstated July 13, 1863. He was transferred to to regimental staff as Com. Sgt., January 1, 1865 and was mustered out on July 17, 1865 at Indianapolis, Indiana.
