Biographical Note
William Luther Howard was born December 23, 1901 in Indiana and was a native of Stockwell, Indiana. He married Elsie B. Gay in Tippecanoe County, Indiana on May 22, 1926 and they had one daughter. He received a bachelor's and master's degree from Purdue University and received his doctorate from Indiana University.
He was a teacher at the Logansport High School from at least 1924 to 1939 and was the Director of Guidance in 1937. He also was an administrator at high schools in Muncie, Bloomington, and Darlington, Indiana. He was a counselor and professor in the School of Education at Butler University, Indianapolis, Indiana. After he retired in 1968, he worked for the Indiana Chapter of Certified Public Accountants.
He was chair of the faculty athletic committee at Butler University, member of sever fraternities, Ancient Order of Scottish Rite and the Murat Shrine, vice president of the Indiana State Teachers Association, Indiana Chapter of the American Personnel and Guidance Association and the National Vocational Guidance Association. He received the Indiana State Counselor Education Award in 1971 and was awarded the National Vocation Guidance Association Award.
He died November 22, 1986 and is buried at the West Point Cemetery, West Point, Indiana.
