Biographical Note

William Robeson Holloway was born December 6, 1836, in Richmond, Indiana, to Mr. and Mrs. David P. Holloway. He worked as a printer before becoming Governor Oliver P. Morton's private secretary. Holloway purchased the Indiana Journal newspaper, and served as editor for several years. He also founded the Indianapolis Times, which later merged with the Journal. Holloway also served as postmaster of Indianapolis as well as United States consul general in St. Petersburg, Russia. Holloway authored several books on Indiana history. He died December 10, 1911.
