Scope and Contents

This collection contains photocopies of William Miesse's papers dating from 1842 to 1850 and includes letters written to Miesse, bills and receipts, and handwritten directions on a "cure for ague". There is also a sheriff's sale notification with regard to the case of Sarah Bell v. Benjamin Blossom from July of 1870. Also included are photocopies of Judge Vaughan's pocket ledger with entries dating from 1850 to 1856.

Biographical Note

William Miesse was born in Fairfield County, Ohio on March 10, 1812 to Joseph and Catherine Miesse. He married Elizabeth Beery (1816-1897) on May 18, 1834 and they had six children. Vaughn ran a hotel in Decatur, Indiana and died on January 24, 1851.

Judge Vaughan was born in New York on May 24, 1824. He married Lorinda Burr (1828-1896) on December 18, 1845 and they had four children. He was a farmer in Allen County, Indiana and he died on March 6, 1863.
