This collection consists of family letters primarily written to Elizabeth J. Roby, a resident of Salem, Washington County, Indiana from her cousins, William and Agnes Scott, of Smyrna, Iowa and from other family living in Xenia, Illinois ranging from 1855 to 1868 regarding farm life and family news. Also included in the collection are some of the original envelopes with postage stamps, two receipts, and an envelope with scraps of dress goods.

Biographical Note

Elizabeth Jane Roby was born October 6, 1827 in Salem, Indiana to Leonard and Roseanna Roby. She married William Allen (1830-1908) on October 2, 1870. She died on January 26, 1905 and was buried in Crown Hill Cemetery in Salem, Washington County, Indiana.
