Biographical Note

John Hart was born on March 1, 1811 in Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany. He married Barbara Eichhorn and immigrated to the United States in May, 1846. In Germany, Mr. Hart spelled his name Johannes Herd, but starting using John Hart sometime after arriving in the U.S. and moving to Indiana. He and his wife, Barbara, had eight children that lived to adulthood: John, Katherine (or Catherine) , Apolonia, Margaret, William, Phillip, Alexander, and Joseph. Hart died on November 4, 1872.

John Hart's son William (W.R.), was born in Lafayette, Indiana on December 25, 1851. He married Martha Belle Upp in April 1878 and had four children that lived to adulthood. William Hart moved to Boswell, Indiana and lived there for 40 years and died on November 23, 1935.
