Scope and Contents

This collection contains photocopies of a February 8, 1848 letter written by Vactor T. Harden to Dr. John H. Quick at Cedar Grove, Franklin County, Indiana. The letter is written from Camp Molino del Rey during the Mexican-American War and Harden mentions that "James is well also John Towner and all of the Franklin boys" and mentions guard duty at a hospital and that a few soldiers had been killed.

Biographical Note

Pacter (Vactor) T. Harden is listed in the United States Adjutant General Military Report as being part of Company G, 5th Regiment Indiana Volunteers during the Mexican-American War. He mustered in to service on October 13, 1847 at Madison, Indiana and mustered out on July 28, 1848. The 5th Regiment was at Molino del Rey during the war.
