This collection contains photocopies of letters written by Mary Hamilton and sent to her cousin, Adelia Hamilton, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The letters range from 1861-1866 and relate the weather, farm work, the condition of crops, illness, and family news. In some of her letters, Mary also mentions the war and speaks about a soldier with whom she is corresponding.

Biographical Note
Mary Hamilton was born on April 16, 1845 in Allen County, Indiana to William and Joanna Hamilton. She married Austin Darroch on November 11, 1869, but they divorced in 1894. She passed away at Morocco, Indiana on February 12, 1914.
