Scope and Contents
This collection contains a handwritten biography of John Hamilton by his great-granddaughter, Mayme Jacobs (circa 1927). The biography relates brief family history; describes how Hamilton got into the whiskey making business; and describes the movements of General William Henry Harrison's forces from Terre Haute to Prophetstown prior to the Battle of Tippecanoe.

Biographical Note
John Hamilton was born near Gettysburg, Pennsylvania on November 22, 1766 to William and Mary Hamilton. His parents were Irish immigrants from County Tyrone. He moved to Kentucky in 1785 and began making whiskey following the Whiskey Rebellion of 1791. He married Rachel Cook (1770-1813) on March 12, 1795. He served under General William Henry Harrison during the Battle of Tippecanoe and achieved the rank of Captain. He died at the age of 97 on September 25, 1863.
