Scope and Contents
This collection contains Everett Hamilton's 1863 pocket diary. The diary entries include notes about his daily activities while attending North Western Christian University in Indianapolis, church attendance, letters sent and received, and expenses paid out. There is also entries during his brief time in the army before his discharge for illness. The collection also includes an undated news clipping from the Indianapolis News that describes Hamilton's diary and how it was found by children playing on East Washington Street in Indianapolis.

Biographical Note
Everett Hamilton was born October 16, 1841 in Decatur County, Indiana to Cyrus and Mary Hamilton. He attended North Western Christian University (now Butler University) for one and one-half years. He was a successful farmer and stockman and was active in the Presbyterian church. He passed away at the age of 89 on October 1, 1930.
