Scope and Contents
This collection contains a typewritten, verbatim copy of a note that was found in Groveland, Indiana the morning after Salmon Hall's store burned on April 20, 1865. The note is addressed to "Sir Mr. Abolitionists of Groveland" and states that the writer intends to "destroy every thing you have got" and ends with a reference to Mr. Hall.

Biographical Note
Salmon Hall was born in Connecticut in 1803 and moved to Ohio when a young man. In 1849, he and his family moved to Mount Pleasant, Iowa and then to Wells County, Indiana in 1852. After a few years he and his family moved to Danville, Indiana before finally settling in Groveland, Putnam County, Indiana in 1862. He ran a general store until his establishment was burned on April 20, 1865. Mr. Hall continued to live in Groveland until his death on May 23, 1885.
