This collection contains a photostat of a certificate that Mrs. Eliza Jane Hall received on September 27, 1845. In recognition of her paying the sum of $5.00 at the North Indiana Annual Conference, Missionary Society, an auxilliary to the Missionary Society of the Methodist Episcopal Church, she was given lifetime membership. At the time of the donation of the photostat copy, the original certificate was housed at the Broadway Methodist Church in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Historical Note

Methodism came to Indiana around 1801. The Indiana Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church was organzined in 1832. In 1844, the organization split, with the National Road the dividing line. The first North Indiana Conference was held in September, 1844 at Ft. Wayne, followed by the second annual session being held in September, 1845 at Lafayette.
