Scope and Contents

The collection consists of a typed copy of a letter from J. S. Haldeman from Thorntown, IN to his cousin Sarah Spoon, in Canton, Illinois on December 3, 1838. He states that he is studying medicine and is interested in settling near her to practice, if the location, price of land, and health of the place is suitable. He compliments her letter writing as very good for someone her age, 13 or 14, as he remembers, and he praises the value of education.
