This collection includes carbon and photocopies of typed, hand-corrected documents from Bert J. Griswold in Fort Wayne, Indiana ranging from 1702-1802 regarding early military life in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Bert Joseph (originally Joseph Elbert) Griswold was born October 13, 1879 to James J. and Ruth Velerie [Veleria] Griswold in Osage, Iowa; he was the thrid of four children. He married Clara Louise Norton on March 21, 1901 and worked for newspapers in Iowa. They moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1902, where he was a cartoonist, journalists, and in 1914, started his own advertising agency, the Progressive Advertising Company. He was a co-founder of the Fort Wayne Engraving Company. He also wrote a number of books and compilations of records of early Fort Wayne History. He died on March 8, 1927 and is buried in the Linwood Cemetery, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
