Biographical Note
Nimrod Grigsby, of Henderson County, Kentucky apprenticed his son William Alexander Grigsby (born in 1810 in Kentucky) to Burgess S. Moody on 09/11/1826. In the 1820 Census, there were 25 persons listed at Nimrod's address, including 7 free white persons, 1 male under 10, and 18 slaves. In 1830, there were 5 free white persons and 25 slaves. In 1840, there were 3 free white persons and 6 slaves. William Alexander and his wife, Priscilla, had four children, including Eliza A. Grigsby, who married Frank Crawford on October 6, 1868. They were the parents of Florence Crawford (born in 1875), the donor of the collection.
