Biographical Note

Alva Clarkson Griest [Grist] [Ghriest] was born January 22, 1840 in Crawfordsville, Indiana. He enlisted July 19, 1863 and served as a private in Company B, Indiana 72nd Infantry Regiment. He was mustered out on July 24, 1865. He married Rebecca Green in Hendricks County, Indiana on October 5, 1867, and they had at least one child. He worked as a farmer. He died August 20, 1880 in Harrisburg, Illinois. He is buried in Sugar Grove Cemetery, Plainfield, Indiana.
