This collection includes an autographed, signed document from the Secretary of War in England on 1771/05/03 regarding regimental quartering and a printed order, signed by William Eden, 1st Baron Auckland, by the Lord Lieutenant General and General Governor of Ireland on circa 1781/04/12 authorizing the recruitment of soldiers.

Administrative History
The 38th Regiment of Foot was organized in 1705 as Luke Lillington's Regiment of Foot and numbered as the 38th Regiment of Foot in 1751. The regiment saw service in the American Revolution. It received the secondary title of 1st Staffordshire in 1782. The regiment later saw service in the Netherlands, German, the West Indies, England, Ireland, and many other place through 1815. There was a series of mergers and name changes.
