Scope and Contents
This collection consists of seven weather diaries kept by Dr. Robert G. Graydon ranging from 1855 to 1898. Every entry includes the daily temperature which Dr. Graydon took three times every day, morning, midday, and evening. Many of the entries include the wind direction, appearance of the sky, and notations regarding precipitation. The majority of the entries are for Southport, Indiana, with a few months of entries for Greenwood, Indiana and Tyler, Texas

Biographical Note
Robert Geddes Graydon was born August 17, 1819 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania to Alexander and Sarah (Geddes) Graydon. He attended school in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania until the age of nineteen, when he left for Hanover, New Hampshire to attend Dartmouth. Graydon graduated from college in 1842 and then returned to Harrisburg to study medicine with Dr. William Rutherford. Graydon later decided to attend medical school at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 1845. He made his way to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1846, but in 1849 he headed west to California.
Dr. Graydon returned to Indiana in 1852 and moved to Greenwood. He remained in Greenwood until 1858, minus a short time spent in Tyler, Texas, and then moved to Southport in Marion County, Indiana. Dr. Graydon was married three times. First to Sarah C. Todd in 1851, but she died in 1857. Second to Eliza B. Todd in 1866, but she passed away in August 1867. His third wife was Flora A. Finch; they were married in Dec. 1872. Dr. Graydon retired from active practice in 1887. He passed away on July 21, 1898 in Southport.
