Biographical Note

Julia Louisa Dumont Gordon was born February 13, 1842 in Lawrenceburg, Indiana to General Ebenezer and Mary Ann Cheek Dumont. She was one of at least six children. Her paternal grandmother, Julia L. Dumont, had taught both Edward and George Carey Eggleston. She married Major Jonathan Wesley Gordon, a lawyer and veteran of two wars, on March 13, 1862 in Indianapolis, Indiana. They had one child, John Charles Fremont Gordon. She lived in Washington, D.C. for some time and died in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on February 11, 1928. She is buried in the Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis, Indiana.
