Biographical Note

Christian Giggy was born February 1, 1832 in Canton Berne, Switzerland. He began his voyage to the United States on April 24, 1851. Giggy arrived in New York harbor on June 15, 1851. He reached Cleveland, Ohio on June 19th. In August 20, 1851, Giggy began working at a sawmill in Peninsula, Ohio. In August of 1851, He married Ellen Burkhalter, who was also from Switzerland. The couple had five children: Mary, Rosanna, Charles, Oscar, and Sarah. The family was a member of the Lutheran Church. Giggy died on December 20, 1922.
