Scope and Contents
This collection includes photocopies of letters written by the Clore and Garr families ranging from 1844-1879. The correspondence contains discussions about the weather, crops, family news, and the Civil War. Many of the letters were sent to John and Ann Garr by Ann's parents and siblings. They also received letters from their daughter, Mary; John's brother, Franklin; and his sister, Priscilla (1844-1866). The collection also contains family correspondence to and from James O. Garr (1868-1879).

Biographical Note
James Clore (1794-1872) was born in Madison County, Virginia and moved to Oldham County, Kentucky in 1819. He married Sarah Kellar (1803-1862) on December 26, 1820 and they had 12 children. Their daughter, Anna "Ann" (1823-1899), married John Wesley Garr (1817-1866) on September 17, 1840 and they had 8 children. John Wesley was also born in Madison County, Virginia and his family moved to Kentucky when he was eleven years old. In 1844, he and Ann moved to Johnson County, Indiana and then settled in Howard County in 1851. Their son, James, was a physician in Kokomo, Indiana and lived for a time (1878-1879) in Great Bend, Kansas.
