Biographical Note/Historical Note/Administrative History

The Ohio, Illinois, and Indiana Telegraph Company was organized in 1848. It was to run east from Michigan City, Indiana to Dayton or Cincinnati, Ohio and west from Michigan City (via Chicago, Illinois or Milwaukie, Illinois) to St. Louis, Illinois. Shares were still being sold in 1852.

Many mergers of telegraph companies took place in the period of 1857-1870. This company probably was one of them and was very likely absorbed into the Western Union Telegraph Company.
