Scope and Contents
This collection includes three articles from the Indianapolis Star dated November 21, 22, and 23, 1928, by Kate Milner Rabb in her column "A Hoosier Listening Post." Ms. Rabb reprints sections of a letter originally published in the Indianapolis Journal on July 21, 1861 in which Col. Ebenezer Dumont reported on the Battle of Carrick's Ford of Cheat River, on July 13, 1861. The series over three days gives battle information and lists soldiers who participated in the battle. The November 23, 1928 article reports that Major Jonathan Gordon brought back to Terre Haute the sword and watch of Confederate General Garnett, who was killed in the battle. Other items in the November 23 column are: Camp Jo Holt, the Union camp in Kentucky commanded by Col. Rousseau; the St. Paul Excursionists; and advertisements influenced by the war.
