Scope and Contents

This single paper is 7 ¼ x 3 ½” and is printed on both sides. The facsimile is from the Senate Chamber, Session of 1885, and is the “largest warrant ever issued by the Indiana Senate,” which amounts to four thousand thirty six dollars and 66 cents ($4,036.66) to William H. Drapier, Esquire, for “services as stenographer of the Senate in preparing & furnishing the 22nd volume of Revised Legislative Reports of the Senate in the 54th General Assembly in accordance with Senate Resolution on page 981 of Senate Journal of the year 1885; and the sworn account statement of said Drapier attached to this certificate.”

Biographical Note

William H. Drapier lived at the first house north of the bridge over Fall Creek on Capitol Boulevard, “the prettiest location in Indianapolis.” He served over 50 years in the Indiana General Assembly, most often as an elected official. He was active on the national level of the Disciples of Christ Church, and with the Grand Army of the Republic.
