This collection contains a newspaper clipping and two photocopies of Kate Milner Rabb's column, "A Hoosier Listening Post", from the April 19, 1931 Indianapolis Star. Rabb's column discusses letters sent by Dr. Daniel Drake in 1836 to William H. McGuffey regarding his resignation of his professorship at Oxford, Ohio and offering McGuffey the presidency of Cincinnati college.

Biographical Note

Daniel Drake, was born on October 20, 1785 at Plainfield, New Jersey to Isaac and Elizabeth Drake. His family moved to Kentucky in 1788 and he later became a student of Dr. William Goforth in Cincinnati, Ohio. Dr. Goforth granted him a formal diploma to practice medicine in 1805 before he went to Philadelphia to continue his studies at the University of Pennsylvania. He returned to Cincinnati and establish a medical practice in 1807. He played a major role in the organization of the Medical College of Ohio (1819) and was a founding member of the Commercial Hospital and Lunatic Asylum of Ohio (1820). He married Harriet Sisson (1787-1825) in 1806 and they had 2 children. After practicing and teaching medicine in both Ohio and Kentucky for almost 50 years, Dr. Drake died at the age of 67 on November 5, 1852.
