Biographical Note

William H. Depoy was born November 13, 1840 to Nicholas (1799-1865) and Henrietta (1810-1886) Depoy. He died at Fort Washington, Maryland, on February 6, 1864, and was buried in Concord Cemetery, Whitley County, Indiana. He had served with the 46th Indiana Regiment and 156th Indiana Battalion.

The Forty-Sixth Regiment was organized at Logansport on October 4th, 1861. At the time of this letter, dated March 14, 1862, the 46th was part of General Pope’s army.
