Scope and Contents
This collection includes photocopies of letters, articles, and photographs from the Davis family in Indiana ranging from 1851 to 1972 regarding famly life and business and the U.S. Civil War. There are also genealogical charts prepared by Julia Helen Davis Smith on October 31, 1972. Subjects of the photographs are family reunions and a G.A.R. convention. The articles contain information about medicines, women, temperance meetings, and a washing machine.

Biographical Note
Noah Davis was born about 1791 and served in the War of 1812. He married Margaret Miller and they had eight children, including a set of twins. Six of their sons served in the U.S. Civil War. Davis moved to the vicinity of Union City, Indiana, in 1830, and to White County, Indiana, in 1842, where he was living in 1850. He died at age 83, and his wife, Margaret, died at age 73.
Isreal Stephen Davis (1826-1875), the second son of Noah Davis, married Elizabeth Lindsey, daughter of Joshua and Sarah Lindsey, on March 8, 1849.
