Biographical Note

Mary Croan was born in Nebraska on December 18, 1884 (or 1885) to Joseph D. and Susan (Dillon) Croan, one of three children. Her father was a minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church. She attended the Frankton Indiana Public School in 1898. She married Joseph Cecil Hodges on January 3, 1905 in Marion, Indiana, with whom she had four children. They were divorced by September 8, 1910. She died June 10, 1944 and is buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park (Glendale), California.
