Historical Note
Williamsport Falls is a waterfall located on the Falls Creek, a branch of the Wabash River near to the center of Williamsport, the county sear of Warren County, Indiana. The waterfall is formed where Falls Creek travels over a sandstone ledge. Its height has changed over the years as pieces of the ledge sheared off and fell to the pool below, where sandstone was once quarried to build many local structures. In the 19th century, the falls once had a water flow substantial enough to support a mill, but the conversion of woodlands and grasslands to farmland and the diversion of water for agricultural irrigation has made its flow less consistent.
