Biographical Note

Samuel Fulton Covington was born in 1822 in Rising Sun, Indiana to Robert and Mary Covington. He attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio from 1837-1838 but did not complete his studies, due to dropping out to support his widowed mother. He married Mary Hamilton on April 2, 1843. They had five children and lived in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1860. He worked as an insurance agent and was made Secretary of the Globe Insurance Company in Ohio in 1865, then became president of the firm in 1874. They lived in Cincinnati, Ohio by 1870 and Columbia, Ohio by 1880. He died December 26, 1889 of chronic bronchitis and is buried in the Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio.
