Biographical Note
Peter Cornstalk was a Miami Indiana chief, whose people moved from Virginia in 1774 to Ohio, then settled near Roachdale, Indiana around 1790. He may have been the grandson or nephew of Peter Cornstalk, a famous chief who was killed in Ohio in 1777. His village of Snakefish (Eel River) Miami Indiana was located along Cornstalk Creek on the current location of Harshbarger Cemetery. By 1836, they had left Indiana, moving west. A town, Cornstalk [Constalkville], and covered bridge in Indiana were also named for him. His date of death and location are unverified.
