Biographical Note

Marcelle Dominic LaCroix was born to Dominic and Henrietta Lalumiere LaCroix on August 12, 1824. He was a partner in LaCroix and Bayard. They sold dry goods, groceries, shoes and boots. LaCroix also sold wheat. He was a shareholder in the German Banking Company, organized in 1870, with his brother-in-law, Joseph L. Bayard. He also helped organize the Citizens Gas Light Company on January 20, 1876.

LaCroix married Mary Ann Adele Bayard, one of nine children and whose father, John Francis Bayard, was an officer in Napoleon Bonaparte's army, on November 21, 1853 in the St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, Vincennes, Indiana. They had four children: John D. [B.]., Anna, Adel R. and Helen Henriette. LaCroix died December 4, 1876 and is buried in the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Vincennes, Indiana.

His son, John D. LaCroix continued the business after LaCroix's death.
