Scope and Contents

This collection consists of one item, which is a photostat of two handwritten pages of proceedings from a meeting held in Louisville on August 7, 1784. Attending the meeting were the trustees appointed by the Commonwealth of Virginia for the town of Clarksville. They met in accordance with "An act for surveying and apportioning the land grants to the Illinois Regiment and establishing a town within the said grant." The men present at... the meeting were: Walker Daniel, George R. Clark, John Montgomery, John Bailey, Robert Hood, and Abraham Chaplin. George R. Clark was given permission to erect the mill which he was building on a branch above the lots laid off for Clarksville. See more
