Scope and Contents
This certificate testifies to the good character of Walter Clark of Vevay, Switzerland County, Indiana. Signers were: John T. Deming, Ebenezer Stanton, Richard Dumont, William Cotts, John Francis Dufour, James McClure, A. B. Dumont, George Cross, H. B. Howell, Rawleigh Day, John B. Minola, William Paxton, Paxton W. Todd, Owen Todd, David McCormick, John Dumont, and Isaac Stanley. A few names could not be read. The men signed the certificate on December 31, 1816, and the court clerk, John Francis Dufour, signed and sealed it on January 14, 1817.

Historical Note
Walter Clark is mentioned in Perret Dufour's 1925 book "The Swiss Settlement of Switzerland County, Indiana." On pages 52 and 373, the story of David Bebee's trial for selling unwholesome meat listed the men on the jury. Walter Clark is one of the twelve.
