Scope and Contents

This collection consists of copies of a letter from Joseph M. Bowman, Assistant to the Secretary of the Treasury, to Senator Birch Bayh and a letter to Centlivre from Robert J. Myers, Chief Actuary in the Social Security Administration. Both letters address an inquiry by Centlivre concerning the long-term solvency of the Old Age, Survivors, and Disability Insurance programs (Social Security).

Biographical Note

Herman G. Centlivre was born February 25, 1903, in Allen County, Indiana, to Charles and Frances Centlivre. He worked in advertising before joining the family brewery in Fort Wayne. Centlivre married Mary O’Dowd, with whom he had four children. Centlivre died in April 1987.
