Biographical Note
William Carter, born to William and Elizabeth [Betsy] Dugget Carter in Defiance Ohio, January 31, 1857, was also a lawyer. In the 1890s, he was the Secretary of the committee planning the centennial of Gen. Anthony Wayne's arrival at Fort Defiance in Ohio. He wrote a book, Fort Defiance Centennial, in 1894. He lived in Indianapolis in the early 1900s and wrote to his mother.

Biographical Note
William Carter, born December 15, 1812, married Betsy, and they had two daughters, Emma and Florence and a son, William. He lived in Columbus, Ohio in 1868; Defiance, Ohio in 1869. He was addressed as the Hon. Wm. Carter and as William Carter, Esq., so he was probably a lawyer and perhaps a judge. He died January 29, 1881 and is buried in Riverside Cemetery, Defiance, Ohio.
