Biographical Note
Thomas Carr was born on December 12, 1777 in Chester County, PA. His family moved to Frederick County, VA when he was young. His father died in 1784, and he was raised by his uncle, Samuel Ewing and family until he was 21, by which time they lived in Perryville, Mercer County, KY. He married Peggy [Margaret] Buchanan on March 21, 1804 in Mercer County, and they moved to Clark County, IN later that year, purchasing land in Indiana from Samuel Ewing in 1805. In 1813, he moved to Valonia, where he had command of the blockhouse, moving to "Pea Ridge Farm" in 1816.
He and Peggy had several children, including a set of twins and George Whitfield and John Flavel Carr, who were both involved with the Constitutional Convention of 1851 and both served in the General Assembly. She died on June 25, 1820 in Jackson County, IN. He married Mary "Polly" Cavender Boas on June 30, 1823 (who died in 1883), and they had several children. He fathered at least seven children. He died March 10, 1847 in IN.
