Hoagy Carmichael letter
Collection — Folder: S0222
Identifier: S0222
Scope and Contents
One letter dated January 3, 1942 is the only item in this collection. The letterhead is for Kenneth R. Shaffer, Order Librarian, Indiana State Library, Indianapolis. Mr. Shaffer told Hoagy that the State Library was “eager to secure a copy of this vocal score for the music collection of our Indiana History Division.” The musical arrangement was for
Herschelll’s AIN’T GOD GOOD TO INDIANA.
Hoagy answered by writing in blue ink at the bottom of the letter: “Mr. Shaffer, The only copy – a manuscript – was last heard of as being in Chicago. Mrs. Herschell has been trying to get it returned. Why not call her and someone can make a copy of it for you if she has obtained it. Thank you for your interest. Next time in town, I’ll call you and we can get the collection up to date. Yours Hoagy Carmichael.”
