William Campbell letters
Collection — Folder: S0215
Identifier: S0215
Scope and Contents
There are three letters in this collection, plus a daguerreotype of Nancy and William holding a book. The first letter is undated and is addressed to “Respected Wife.” He mentions the steam boat Wisconsin, and “our iron horse … roaring like he would tear things to pieces.”
On November 1, 1849, William wrote to James F. Harney about the possibility of the two of them rooming together. He said his health was bad. He wrote: “My desire is that on these local matters we be united.”
On December 12, 1849, William wrote to Mrs. Nancy Campbell from “my seat in the Legislative Hall.” He told his wife: “I have attended on the lectures of Mr. Vampson.” “I have visited several churches.” William also visited the Deaf and Dumb Asylum, the Camp, and the insane hospital “some two miles” away. He said “all is pell mell” and the “house is now in such an uproar I cannot write.”
