Biographical Note

Joseph Isaac Byrum, Sr. was born on September 25, 1899 in North Carolina to Joseph and Cora Byrum. Joseph had two siblings. He married his first wife, Maggie L. Byrum in 1930, with whom he had two or three children. His second wife was Maud Elizabeth Byrum, with whom he also had two or three children. He was a member of The Catholic Poetry Society of America and American Poetry Group. He may have worked at the Norfolk Navy Yard in Portsmouth, Virginia. Joseph died on March 25, 1978 and is buried at Riverside Memorial Park in Norfolk, Virginia.
