Biographical Note
Will S. Burris was born on September 24, 1871 in Daviess County, Indiana, the youngest of seven children, among them Grant and Alfred. Will was ordained a minister at his home church of Alfordsville, Indiana. He then attended the Southern Indiana Normal College at Mitchell, Indiana around 1888, where he met his future wife, Ollie E. Field. They were married on August 26, 1894. He taught schools in Indiana, Missouri and Kentucky.
In 1914 he was elected on the Progressive ticket to serve as Marion Township trustee (Lawrence County, Indiana). In 1918 he was re-elected, as a Republican. When the current township trustee disappeared in 1923 or later, he was recruited to assume the duties as Marion Township trustee. He was elected to a third term as township trustee in 1926. He was on the library board at the time the Mitchell Carnegie library was built. He also worked for the First National Bank of Mitchell for many years. Ollie died on February 17, 1932.
