Historical Note

The Mill Creek Baptist Church in Putnam County, Indiana was constituted as a congregation on Saturday April 17, 1830 by eleven persons who had withdrawn their membership from Deer Creek Church. Rev. Absalom Hurst is considered the founder. The original meeting house and cemetery fence were built in 1830. Their first minister was ordained on October 22, 1870, Brother John Adams. The last meeting of the membership was held July 1950 and the meeting house was sold in 1958. Proceeds go to the upkeep of the cemetery.
