This collection includes autographed, signed letters, commercial greeting cards, checks, tax forms, ration books, post cards, and commercial invitations to and from the Brutus family in Indiana and the United States, ranging from 1839 to 1951, regarding family and business matters. There is also an oversize fragmented letter dated November 16, 1845 (OB086).

Biographical Note
Martin V. Brutus was born in 1844 in Indiana. He and Melissa (also Dora) Tradora Conrad (born in 1861) married on September 3, 1893 in Decatur County, Indiana and they had one child, John S. (Samuel) Brutus. Melissa Brutus remarried to Luther L. Harcourt on September 8, 1905 in Rush County, Indiana. Harcourt and her son, Samuel Brutus, lived in Richland, Indiana in 1910 and they had moved to Anderson by 1930 and Milroy by 1940.
