The collection contains World War II letters of Donald D. Howard to his parents, Louise and George Howard (Evansville, Indiana), written from the South Pacific, Okinawa, China, Korea, the Philippines, California, and Ft. Benjamin Harrison during 1945-1946. The collection also includes correspondence from the Howard’s daughters Marilyn, a student at Indiana University, and Mrs. R.C. Datzman, a medical technician and wife of a physician in Detroit and Carlysle, Pennsylvania, during the same time period.

Biographical Note

Donald D. Howard served in the U.S. Navy, including service in the 4th Joint Assault Signal Company during World War II. From Evansville, Indiana, Howard served in the South Pacific with duty at Okinawa, Korea, China, and the Philippines.
