This collection includes original letters and photocopied diary entries from William S. Bradford of Indiana from 1861 to 1862. It also includes a tintype photograph and print of tintype of William S. Bradford, a carte de visite of Lucy Bradford, newspaper clippings (), and a metal stencil of Capt. Bradford's name, rank, and regiment, likely used for military documentation and communication.

Biographical Note

William S. Bradford was married to Lucy W. Adsit April 1, 1857. He was a captain in the Union Army during the American Civil War, serving in Company F of the Indiana 57th Regiment. He died in hospital May 16, 1862.

This collection was received by Rare Books and Manuscripts in the following divisions: The photographs, news clippings and correspondence were received as a gift from Paul B. Robinson on 1997/05/27. The transcript and photocopies of the diary were received as a gift from Albert E. Montague on 1969/04/02.
