Biographical Note
William E. Blacklidge's parents were Richard and Lucinda, and he was born on August 1, 1851 near Brookville, Indiana. He attended Brookville College in the 1860s. He also attended the National Normal School at Lebanon, Ohio and then taught for six years. He married Amanda J. Hackleman in 1878, and they had two children, Alpha and Kent. He became a lawyer and practiced with his brother, James C. Blacklidge, in Kokomo, Indiana. He organized and directed both the Citizens National Bank and the Kokomo Trust Company, which banks merged and he became vice-president and director if the new entity. He assisted in the organization of the Diamond Plate Glass Company, which was later acquired by the Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company. He was one of three men who bought the Opalescent Glass Works in Kokomo in 1890 when it went into receivership and renamed it the Kokomo Opalescent Glass Company. The company still exists and is operated by descendants of the three men. He died on January 24, 1935 and is buried in Kokomo, Indiana.
