This collection includes 21 photocopies of materials from Salem, Indianan. Included are papers dealing with Morgan's Raid, stock shares in various Salem businesses and schools, and receipts. Also included is a 9-page copy of coffin accounts, 1873-1880, of Washington County, Indiana, listing coffin sales to individuals.

Biographical Note
Jonas B. Berkey was born in Berlin, Pennsylvania, on January 20, 1808, son of Christian and Fannie Berkey. The family migrated to Pigeon Roost, Clark County, Indiana, in 1809. Less than a year later, the family moved to Washington County, Indiana, followed by their final move to Jackson County, Indiana. On April 19, 1828, Berkey married Evaline Henderlider. Their children included Susan, Frederick Norton, Jonas Wright, Isabelle, Elizabeth, and Delilah. In 1845, Berkey opened his Berkey merchandise store, known as Berkey Brothers after his sons took over the business, in Salem, Indiana. He died on October 21, 1886.
