Biographical Note
Thomas B. Helm was born in Fayette County, Indiana to Samuel D. and Patience (Wherrett) Helm on February 1, 1824. He was a teacher in Logansport, Indiana from 1844 to 1873. Helm married Mary E. House (1831-1854) in Carroll County, Indiana on September 20, 1849 and they had a son, Samuel L. (1851-1854). Helm remarried, 5 years later, this time to Catherine P. Davis (1822-1903) on January 2, 1859 in Cass County. He also served as the civil engineer and the probate commissioner for Cass County. Helm wrote the History of Cass County, Indiana in 1886 and histories for other Indiana counties. Helm died February 10, 1889 and was buried in the Ninth Street Cemetery, Logansport.
