Biographical Note
Thomas B. Helm was born in Fayette County, Indiana to Samuel D. and Patience Wherrett Helm on Feb. 1, 1824. He was a teacher in Logansport, Indiana from 1844 to 1873. Helm married Mary E. Hense [House] in Carroll County, Indiana on September 20, 1849, with whom he had one son, Henry, born around 1852. His second wife was Catherine P. Davis, whom he married on Jan. 2, 1859 in Cass County, Indiana. He He was also the civil engineer and the probate commissioner for Cass County. Helm wrote the History of Cass County, Indiana in 1886 and the histories for other Indiana counties. He died Feb. 10, 1889 and is buried in the Ninth Street Cemetery, Logansport.
