Scope and Contents

The collection consists of 2 folders, both relating to the history of Fish and Game laws in Indiana. Folder 1 contains of 2 typewritten onionskin pages, "The Story of Fish and Game Laws:, 1 photocopied page of a carbon copy, "Kankakee State and Fish Game Area and 1 copy of the History of Fish and Game in Indiana (27 pages), dated May 1966, text "submitted for booklet to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Forestry and Conservation at Purdue University" on the title page. This document is a mix of typed pages, typewritten onionskin copies and photocopies. There is another document, entitled "Wildlife Instruction and research in Department of Forestry and Conservation", 10 pages, with 2 pages of course information with numbers of juniors and seniors and total undergraduates. Folder 2 is one complete copy of everything in folder 2 within the binder.

Biographical Note

William B. Barnes, born about 1908, was the Assistant Director of the Division of Fish and Game, Indiana Department of Natural Resources in 1966. A native of Delaware, Barnes came to Indiana as a camp forester through the CCC program. It was here in Indiana where William met his wife Cecilla Rose Doyle. The couple married in her hometown of Loogootee, Indiana in 1938. The couple had three children: Bill Jr., John, and Phil. The following year, Barnes began his career with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources in 1939. William B. Barnes died November 12, 2007 at the age of 99.
