Biographical Note

Lotta "Lottie" Lyons was born July 22, 1884 in Hymera, Sullivan County, Indiana. She attended the Herron Art School, Marian College, and graduated from Central Normal College in Danville, Indiana. She married Walter Smith Grow, an osteopathic physician, in 1910. From 1937 to 1944, she wrote columns for the Indiana Club Women, and from 1938 to 1946 wrote for the Art Digest. An avid painter, Grow also hosted art programs on radio and television. She also promoted art therapy for wounded servicemen during World War II and authored three books, including Cameos of Deer-Lick in Brown County Hills (1957), Over the Split-Rail Fence (1971), and Beckoning Trails (1979). Lottie Grow died November 2, 1981, in Wabash, Indiana at the age of 91.
